If you think about it, repairing something restores it, hopefully, to its original operating performance but, back in the day, nobody ever tried to replicate the original components, they just used whatever was to hand. However, the smaller size of modern components does make it possible to re-stuff original components and some folk take much pride in restoring not only the performance but also the physical internal appearance of their sets. Each to his (or her) own, as they say.
