Modem/router problem

I have had a few issues with WiFi from time to time and found that the problem appeared to be at the laptop end as re-booting usually sorted. These days on major updates I often use a cable and wire the laptop directly in, in case of issues. I also think that, over a period of time, the phone line connections become less reliable and need re-seating, which has cured odd problems I have had. This is not helped though when someone accidently pulls at the cable.
