Thanks for the replies. I've got a board on the way from China with the non RDS chip version. Stereo tool will be fine for this chip. The pilot tone and multiplexing is done in software. The compression, agc, and other features are in the software too. I've discovered where I went wrong and its because I'm using the wrong Hifiberry card, I should have gone for the one with inputs too.
