The dial bulbs on most AC/DC sets are shunted to reduce the maximum switch on current of the cold heater chain being passed through the lamp(s). Some care would need to be taken with the LED series resistor to avoid excess current in the LED, however, since these LEDs have a very high light output it should be possible to find a compromise resistor value to be bright enough without shortening the LED life.
