I bought a batch of LEDs about 10 years ago. They look externally like Luxon stars and are made up of two reverse parallel stacks to mains voltage and have a couple of resistors on them.
I have had two failures in 10 years of everyday use of about half a dozen units in re-stuffed candle bulb bases.
You can buy them ready made cheap in Aldi now so I am not in a hurry to make up any more.
