I need to understand the package manager and installing software. In Windows you download the self extracting package in the browser, put the file somewhere convenient and double click it. For Linux I know there's sudo apt -get but don't really understand it yet. What I need to understand before just about anything else is the disk and file structure. I know that / is the root of everything. Then I must ge to grips with the various things below that.
Looks like you can instal Mint with an option that makes it easy to resize partitions across 1 or more disks. That's a lot better than Windows where you often need 3rd party tools to do a good job.
My first resource is usually searching for the problem online. Whatever it is, somebody has usually been there before.
