It sounds a useful camera to me, but I know from experience that they gather the dust. I have an Olympus C2500L 2.5 Megapixel which takes a beautiful picture but I seldom use.
I also have an S9600 which I presume is a later development of the S5000. If the S5000 has the same setup then for anyone so inclined the ability to fit filters plus the manual zoom and focusing are excellent for manual operation and tricky situations. - Quick check online on this , I see it has motorised zoom so not quite the same but there may be similar useful features (like manual focus)
