Its the fact it is ceramic I think, drops off value at RF.
Only the more compact ceramic capacitors using the fancy dielectrics with very high values. of K. They are also voltage and vibration sensitive. Larger size 1nF and 10nF are only limited by lead inductance. SMD are better, depending on layout.
It's easy to solder SMT caps, resistors, transistors and diodes to pre-tinned track side of veroboard/stripboard.
