The chances are that the fake parts have been labelled to look like genuine ones as sold by RS.
As Mark said, there are a lot of fake components around. Plus ones that failed test (all the way back to Sinclair buying Plessey's floor sweepings) and the used parts made to look like new. At least these last might be OK.
As an aexample the modulator chips for the Hedghog are a problem. Haven't been made for years so when you buy them on ebay etc you've no idea if it's genuine NOS or floor sweepings. I know that Darryl did a "last time buy" of them when they were going obsolete so the Auroras will be fine for the forseeable future.
