Measure the plate voltages and record them. We can look at them and see how healthy your circuits are.

Hi Mr Greg.

The coupling capacitor has been replaced. The pentode anode volts are near spot on. The injector tone is clear in the speaker. The set produces sound from MW but low volume and distorted, the triode anode volts are around 130. I rechecked the components around the triode but they all check out OK, is the valve next on the list? 

I'll start searching for a replacement.....

The resistance needs to be on the input too, as the mains transformer itself can overload.

Could I replace the transformer for the heaters, then calculate the resistor needed just for the HT? (There's not much room in the set and its not really original now). I've some small 240/6.3 1.5A transformers (RS) "NOS"
