I do to some extent agree with you about preserving the patina that an article accumulates through its life. That said, I would still prefer to see FS in its 1930s appearance instead of the sad 1960s appearance.
For me the smoke deflectors are as bad as seeing a host of yellow capacitors in an old radio or television.
Stuffing old components is fakery but the result is something that allows you to transport yourself back to the era of the item's heyday. Fitting modern components destroys the illusion.
