Surely the point about preserving old technology is that it represents how it was when it was first introduced just as the original designer intended. Gresley introduced "Flying Scotsman" in 1923 as an A1 Pacific. Giving it the technology of an A4 Pacific it is no longer representative of a 1923 locomotive. Each should represent the period in which they first appeared.
