Terry, I have heard of Birkett's, though I, like others no doubt, assumed that that shop would have closed by now, due to Mr Birkett's advanced age. There is a shop, Harding's by name, in Cheltenham, which was still trading the last time I was there - much nearer to where I live than Lincoln, and which, although being dependent on public transport, I can, and occasionally do, visit. At one time there were two component shops in Banbury, about 14 miles from here, another in Witney, about 15 miles, and at least one in Oxford, just over 20 miles distant, but the last of these closed some years ago. I do buy from Cricklewood Electronics from time to time, always ordering on line, though i could get to London and visit their shop. The only radio-related event in Oxford was the recent Marconi exhibition in the Museum of Science there.
