One thing I miss after moving away is those informal meetings, they were excellent, friendly affairs.
Anyway, back to the plot. I looked at the RSGB's website for details of any events near you but found none. However, a search of a 30 mile radius of Oxford brings up 12 local clubs - it might be worthwhile contacting some of them for help - they might know of local shops that are still trading that might be useful.

I've only been past that shop once, after I took the foolhardy decision to walk down the High Street from the castle area. By the time that the agonising pain from my knees made it very obvious that I'd made a disastrous mistake, there was no going back - the next part of this street (which I'd already descended) isn't named Steep Hill for nothing!
I did, at least, hope to be able to have a browse around when I got to the shop but, alas, it was closed! It's only open for a few hours about four days a week (from memory). I thought that John Birkett is well into his 80s but, if his age in this 2015 thread https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/show...p?t=115599 is correct, he will now be 91, so the restricted opening is quite understandable.
There is mention in that thread of advertisements in PW so it might be worth getting a copy and seeing if there are any more hidden treasures still around.
