An interesting little project which I will look into. I recently built a simple signal generator for six frequencies over the medium waveband using an Arduino Nano. I used a two gang 6 way switch, using one for switching frequency and the other for switching the anode load of a Russian rod pentode which I used for output filtering (the Arduino feeding the output valve directly). I used one of the timers in the Arduino for frequency setting (Timer 2 for approx [but fixed] 470kHz, 500kHz, 750kHz, 1MHz, 1.5MHz and 2MHz). It has been a useful tool for medium wave frequency testing, specifically aerial amplifiers at present. An obvious issue with this approach though is resolution to specific frequencies, but is fine if a non-critical set of frequencies are required. (I used a valve at fairly low voltage more to test technology mixing issues rather than any other good design reason, but it works well).
