A honk in the mid-bass (100-200Hz) will be because of the high Q of that driver, as explained earlier. An open back is likely to be the best bet for that particular speaker - I doubt its TS parameters will be ideal for either sealed or ported applications.

Mid-range peaks are likely down to reflection within the box - the damping material will help a lot with that.
