Hi All,
Just to say I have followed the advice and have put in two new capacitors and it is working - probably as well as it ever will. A lot of AC interference and not much on LW or MW but I think a longer aerial will improve things.
So thanks for all the helpful advice and I shall hand back the radio to its owner when he gets back from Singapore just \after Christmas.
I have had an interesting journey into long forgotten areas and I will now bother you no more.
