The Japanese used to crank the leads on small electrolytic capacitors to allow a bit of air space under them so that any leakage would dry out before it damaged the board.
Tants are better in signal paths on transistor gear as they fail short circuit if there is any surges in voltage or current on power rails.
There was a fad for them in professional gear in the late 1970s and any that were on power rails when there was any kind of surge would go off like fire crackers.
A little bit of contact bounce on the mains switch on kit with a transformer in it was the worst.
