But, is that deliberate? It vaguely remind me of the southern end of the Dartford tunnel approach - there was just an odd shaped roundabout at the northern end - in both cases because the planners knew that, eventually, a new road would join up with it (the M25). It was much simpler to plan ahead for it when they built the tunnel.
