Mike Barker, who as the BVWS's auctioneer is well aware of market conditions, says that many prices have dropped. If you want that round Ekco (I don't), pre-war TV and many others now is the time to buy.
Looking back, I paid £2K for my 702 c1999 and about £3K for my 706 at around the same time. The 706 was from Andy Emmerson and is near original and in working order. I'm sure it needs some attention, especially as I haven't run it for several years. I'm happy about both of those. In retrospect I probably paid too much for my B16T in the Bennett Levy auction. ISTR about £600. I'm sure it would be less now. Those are the only expensive sets I have. My VT2 cost me £20 at the MBL auction and looks in good untouched nick. Compare with the rust bucket VT2 that's in the new BVWS Bulletin. He said he paid £100 which is definitely high for that set in that condition.
Not sure that there are any sets that I really want now. If a nice HMV900 came along I'd be tempted. I think of it as the archetypical prewar set. Probably sell the 702 if that happened. Perhaps a Murphy A56V as it's a stunning example of how to do things utterly differently to EMI. I'm impressed by the early UK round tube experimental colour sets but not sure I'd want to give that amount of space even if one came my way.
