Lindsay, you seem to be getting confused about various things. We'll do our best to sort you out but we need your help. It would help all of us if you enlarged the relevant part of the circuit diagram and took a screenshot to post here. Unlike posting the whole file that wouldn't breach copyright.
Another thing that would help us is a photo of the relevant part of the radio so we can actually see the components you are writing about.
Can you also please post a link to the capacitors that you bought. The 250/440V rating is unusual and we'd like to know why.
