The available schemes are usually:
ADSL: up to 24Mb/s
FTTC: Up to 40Mb/s
FTTC: Up to 80Mb/s
Since 40MB/s FTTC is not much more than ADSL and tends to be more reliable and predictable then why not go for it. If it's not fast enough the many ISPs will aloow you upgrade, even within contract, without penalty.
Since BT say "up to 60Mb/s" that means she can get FTTC.
