Thanks for the useful additional information. Indeed I wondered what the metal strip was designed to do
on the side of the tuner screening can assembly, it now makes perfect sense. I did realise the lockable pot on the rear chassis was linked to IF gain but there is also an attenuator switch on the upper face of the chassis that works on long and medium wave. The attenuator on mine is set to the second position and this gives the best results. I have to say that it can and does perform better than my SDR Play RSP1A in certain respects, the T99 beats the pants off the SDR Play with intermodulation effects, it's built in 5KHz bandwidth setting is so good that a weak station 9KHz next to my local can be listened to with no sideband splatter even at zero attenuation whereas the SDR Play RF gain needs to be reduced and the bandwidth carefully tailored to give clear reception without splatter. I firmly believe these tuners are one if not the best I've had the pleasure to own. Incidentally long wave performance is also excellent with two very weak stations readable, the SDR doesn't resolve them due hash from either the PC or Monitor, a disadvantage of PC connected SDR receivers.
