Just come back to this and how interesting its became. Much I didn't understand but key parts I did. Got to improve my passwords again. I don't use a Manager but make them up and store them in an encrypted file, again with a password !! Mine tend to be something I can remember, often linked scientific or radio related words.
As to the problem after doing a W10 System clean up (getting rid of lots of Net junk) it has not occurred again.
No way was I going to do a Clean Install: that is for me the last resort. Others have said in the past that you should never have to do that.
I'm not into adding 3rd party tools and just trust what is built into the OP Sys software. So far after decades no mishap! Fingers crossed.
