We got our first cat over 40 years ago shortly after moving into a house where the previous tenants had kept rabbits. (Every time we cleaned up we discovered more of a seemingly never ending supply of rabbit food pellets!)
Our first puss was a rescue cat from the PDSA who always seemed attracted to the corner of the living room where the rabbits had obviously been - most pellets found here!
One day she headed into the corner with obvious intentions and Helen scooped her up but instead of taking to the litter tray in the kitchen, she told me to open the French Windows and headed down the path to the far end of the garden.
I stood and watched as she lowered this squirming bundle of fluff to the ground but, at the first opportunity she was free and off. By the time Helen turned round, Samantha was back in the house with me!
However, she was getting older and the days were getting warmer and she seemed to discover that 'Out' was quite a nice place to be. She did show some interest in the other corners of the room, though, and one day a friend told us that there was a brand of cat litter which was very orange in colour. Our lounge carpet, of course, was orange!
