Hi Ref., I,ve used 198 Khz in the past but out of curiosity I Tried it again yesterday. Problems I found were, due to the modulation (speech) it is difficult to get very close to zero beat. I remember reading years ago that some sort of phase modulation is added to 198, this may be the reason for the inability to get a clean zero. 9996 on the other hand transmits as part of its schedule a bare CW signal for about 10 minutes. A technique I read about was to use the S meter when close to beat. This gives a response down to close to DC. Its quite noticeable that the audio beat disappears near zero but the meter still shows a varying reading coming to a stop dead on. At this point you’ve got to stop breathing and have a steady hand !,ll play about with it a bit yet before twiddling ! Trevor, let me know how reception is down your way. Most of the day its readable going up to strong here. Peter
