I would suggest the plastic tube idea with sealant is good, but maybe not overdo the depth of sealant. I remember our installation engineers used a large masonary bit when fitting intercom systems. Some of these used thick, multicored cable (complex bus based unit). Sometimes a smaller drill had been used from both sides to the cavity. It was often found to be an absolute pain in the neck when a faulty unit was needing replacement especially if pullers had been forgotton as the original cable could not be re-used due to its integral fitting to the intercom unit. Offset of holes is almost inevitable if a small drill is used from both sides. Always remember repair or upgrade may be needed.
