Hi
Thanks for the advice.
I tested it with a 15 ohm resistor in series, there was a very noticeable drop in volume, still plenty of volume though, and also a noticeable change in the tone.
The replacement speaker fitted is a fairly nice one, rated at 10 watts, probably a fraction smaller than the original.
But the problem is it has a roll surround which is fairly raised and is flush with the mounting face, and I think it is this vibrating on the baffle which is causing an annoying jiggling noise.
I got this radio for a good price at a boot sale, it was going to be something to make a bit of pocket money, to put towards my next KB (if one ever turns up that I haven't already got) I think this RP33 may be put to one side as a potential donor, pity really as it did sound good, so long as the volume was not turned up too much. But it is not really suitable to let it go in its current condition.
I had a devil of a job to do an RF alignment, I should have ignored the Car (auto) alignment. There was a plastic plug in the car aerial socket anyway, why is the socket blocked off, is that normal.
thanks
Mike
