Sorry the problem was not when copying as such, it just would not play with out severe distortion. It worked fine in another DVD drive and on a HiFi system.
The CD was bought in the UK but I cant say where the DVD drive came from as it was a second hand PC bought from Ebay. In the end my son said I could swap the drive with his one.
There was more discussion on the subject here; where we came to the conclusion that it was Sony/Warner copy protection/country code issues. https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/show...p?t=144003
