Who Actually Repaired Sixties Pocket Radios?

I've just re-read my old post about the Sobell World Ranger, and that repair charge was about 7.1% of the cost of the radio when new.. In today's terms, assuming anyone could be found to undertake the work, nothing with an original price of £350 or so would be economic to repair, £25 bein, in round figures, 7.1% of £350! Although, when I started in the trade back in late 1971, I repaired Car radios, Transistor, Hybrid, and all-valve types, I did sometimes work on transistor portables, and, like Trevor, I had been interested in radio , and it was my hobby for several years prior to starting full-time work in the trade. Portable Radios, certainly weren't 'throwaway' items bin the 60s & 70s. As I noted in my post about the World Ranger, that £13 was about a week's wages at the time I bought it. I had earlier bought a Fidelity Coronet, which cost, IIRC about £10 in 1959 - three week's wages to me at the age of 16!
