Another resistor change made little or no differance but a valve change with one out of the other TV and a full frame is restored, hooray.
I guess I was misled by swapping one poor valve for another, and it so happens that I found an od ECL80 in my spare valves tin which I've kept but not used for the last 40 years. Sadly there is no EY51 in there but there are some DY87 which nay be worth trying to see if this is the cause of the balooning. do old TVs have a beamlimiter? it seems not. I cant find the flyback suppression circuit but now its working it doesn't seem to need one.
There is some cogging on the verticals so perhaps the sync seperator needs looking at next. I think I may have made this worse with the initial valve swap.
I have some PCL8x valves in my tin, perhaps these are equivalent. I'll check in my old vlve data book. but this is enough for today.
There is a lot of tidying up to do now, properley fitting the new components, and removing the bad ones which have only been disconnected at one end.
