Another check, a minute ago shows Max. download speed at 2.2Mbps, and a similar speed for uploads. I've tried switching off the router, disconnecting & re-connecting both the ethernet and phone line cables, changing the DSL filter, even switching off my Freeview box (the only other thing connected in any way to the internet. I haven't yet tried connecting directly to the master socket, because, as I explained earlier, due to the layout of my room, locating the router to where it's phone cable will reach the master socket, and it's ethernet cable reach the PC is difficult. What's still puzzling me is that my set-up has been essentially the same for several years, with both the present tower and the old XP one, yet it's only recently that the download speeds have been this slow. Despite this, I can still do all I want, so I'm inclined not to worry too much about it. I rarely download TV shows or movies, sometimes listen to the radio via the I-player, but other than that, the computer is used for surfing the net, sending & receiving e-mails, starting & replying to threads on this and other forums, all of which work quite well.
