If you are using a graphics card with the modelines from my web page bear in mind that there are limits on the pixel rates that you can operate them at. The graphics cards are really too fast for our old 405 line stuff so you need to use non-square pixels. That said, I'm surprised that your image is too wide. In order to fill the line width I need to stretch the width of my input video signals.
I suspect that you are being constrained by the way you are controlling your graphics card. Jeroni Paul's Modeline program is quite easy to use but it doesn't work if you don't have administrator control of some registry parameters.
