Further notes about BAL and my work with them.
The first high quality video filters and delays were made by Matthey Printed Products, a division of Johnson Matthey. They in turn drew on work by Weaver (BBC) and Mc Namara(GPO). Expensive stuff. Then a few people left MPP to found BAL, doing the same sort of stuff but cheaper and in some cases better. In the 1990s I did some work for BAL, designing thick film video amplifiers and some board level products. Unfortunately BAL went bust, owing me a fiar bit of money. I think that their assets were bought by a small company called Faraday. Some of the BAL people went on to found DT Electronics who were specialist component distributors primarily to the video/broadcast industry. I knew quite a few of these guys and and am still occasionally in touch.
There was speculation that DT Electronics referred to the drinking habits of some of the directors
The precision video filters have long since been superseded by digital oversampling after ADCs and before DACs. Video delays have become irrelevant in a digital age.
Incidentally, I once had some huge rolls of high quality co-ax (similar to BBC PSF1/2) that were used as 1us video delays in a TV facilities house. A bulky alternative to a precision 1us video delay line from BAL etc.
