Mike, perhaps it joined after they went past me? I was near the A12 east of Chelmsford.
Many years ago on a return from Jersey the scheduled Viscount was unavailable so a Dakota was laid on, brilliant! I seem to remember flying along at what seemed like 30 degrees, and flight details were passed from passenger to passenger on a slip of paper!
