I had a certified guy put in the cable to the shed. This was the pucker outdoor and buryable armoured cable. That was run as a spur from the house consumer unit to a rotary switch (so the shed can be isolated). Clipped around the house, and then taken to the shed across the lawn (I buried it). Inside the shed a small consumer unit to feed the sockets and strip-lights.
The reason for getting a certified person to do it, check his work and sign his work, was for insurance reasons. If you do it yourself (and I was competent enough to do it), and then something electrically nasty happens that needs an insurance claim, they will ask for certificates of conformance.
