Feeding the garage/shed from its own RCBO (combined RCD and MCB) is a very good idea. A trip on that circuit then won't disturb any others.
The best way to do a consumer unit these days is all RCBOs and that is what I have at home. Not cheap but the best way. Otherwise the usual way to comply with 17th edition regs is a pair of RCDs, each serving about half the circuits. Much better than a single RCD for everything but still a nuisance if something trips one.
