I find the best way to keep your garden clear of cats messing, is to keep a cat or four as pets, they always go in someone else's garden not their own.  

Not always so.

FWIW, at a rugby dinner, sitting next to one of the England stars of the 2003 Rugby World Cup, I heard that the reason that a famous member of that team had the nickname "The Cat", was because on a heavy night out, he always did some "business" in someone else's garden...
