Remember that scammers come in all grades. From "wouldn't fool a dimwitted child" to true masters of the craft. The general scammable public comes in all forms from utterly gullible to pretty much bomb proof.. What sounds like complete nonsense to me may persuade some to press "1!. Or buy stuff from conmen selling door-to-door and claiming to be on some official rehab programme. Or any of the myriad other forms of scamming that have always been part of the human condition.

A successful scammer only has to fool some of the people some of the time.
