Very interesting Trevor. I will have to look into this more closely, particularly from the fact of the frame aerial. I have a frame aerial too, 80 cm x 80 cm with 9 turns (tuned) and one turn pickup. I often use it with my comms receiver, and find it as good as my long wire in the loft (I can switch between the two which is useful). In my recent experiments with my TRF receiver I have found that it makes the difference between lots of stations and almost none. Also, being tuned, it does provide another level of selectivity. Another interesting fact I came across was with my transistor radio. I was amazed at how well it picked up Radio Caroline. It was only the other day when I realised this was beacause the radio was sitting under the (tuned) loop which was obviously connecting to the ferrite aerial in the radio. It is making me think of possibilities for large loops.
