I cleaned the grease off with buds, then wiped with IPA, it doesn't dissolve the grease but will remove any grit etc.
A small amount of fine oil, thinner than 3 in 1, and its running well, very quiet. Starts in the right direction too!
Suppose the grease has thickened in the last 70 years.
