Testing the Simpson 260-6P. It was found that the reason why the 9volt battery was having a short life turned out to be leakage in the function switch wafers. Seems there was conductive deposits between certain tags. That problem has be sorted and the X100 restance range is working correctly, there was never an issue with the X1 and X10 ranges.
The DC volts range is OK but the AC volts range is reading too high, AC mains appears as on the scale as 450 volts!
So the instrument will be returned to the workshop.
