Ed, there is indeed a 1Meg resistor in parallel with the suppressor cap. These are wired directly across the mains leads at the motor end -i.e. inside the cleaner. Trev., as I stated in post #1, I replaced the mains lead, which had a break in the neutral somewhere. Some time ago I replaced the small PCB (in a different 'Henry') because a component, presumably a diode, had failed. Why do the mains leads fail, I wonder - stress caused by the coiling & uncoiling of the cable possibly?
