Slope FM detection was used to a limited extent in commercial receivers, both valve and solid-state.

More prevalent and persistent was quadrature FM detection, from just after WWII and through the valve era, disappearing during the discrete solid-satte era and then resurfacing in the IC era to become the dominant kind.
