Hi Trevor,
hooked up the Pye 69B to the tuned frame aerial, absolutely superb results! The local hospital radio station Radio Tynside on 1575Kc/s is coming in loud and clear. The station is transmitted at very low power, only 1 watt, so even though the transmitter site is only four miles from my location the received signal is very weak.
The set is receiving Radio Caroline but reception is not as good as the mighty Pilot X65B which is what one would expect because the Pilot has the refinement of having an RF stage. However, the Pilot has a noisy pentagrid frequency changer valve, a 6A7, whereas the Pye employs a Mazda TP25 triode pentode as the FC.
