I have always felt that the batteries should be outside the passenger compartment on safety grounds.
I spotted a U-tube video if people racing electric cars on a street with all the interior trim removed.
The batteries could be seen looking like patio slabs under where the back seats would have been.
If something went wrong with a battery the back seat passengers sure would be on the hot seat.
For batteries that could be swapped it would put them safely hung below the floor pan and accessed by a robotic swapping machine below the forecourt with all the batteries being held in stock providing surge regulation for the main power grid.
There will obviously have to be a battery footprint war on a par with VHS and Beta tapes.
Lithium batteries are no safer than hydrogen when something goes wrong with them.
