ABS Anti-lock brakes

This might explain the annoying behavior I came across in a hire car. I was parking it on a hill and didn't bother to select reverse as the hill was sufficient to reverse the car but the stupid thing only rolled back about a yard before prematurely stopping and insisting that I engaged reverse. OK, I would not have been displaying reversing lights but a more friendly approach might have been to engage the lights rather than the brakes.
