Not to stoke the fire I also find very dubious practices in some components bought from Chinese suppliers usually via ebay (I am not taring everything from China with the same brush) but I have had people come to me with ham radio stuff to repair where they have bought power transistors with a) nothing in them. b) some other transistor just re-badged as the one you want
I have also had a major increase in modern electronic equipment (notably LCD computer monitors, lcd TV's and freeview boxes) bought to me for repair with capacitors puffed out after 8-12 months.
But hey we seem to live in a throw away world thats why its nice to have a hobby restoring valve equipment.
