Abusing Saleae's software is clearly wrong. But is their software worth $399 more than the open source alternative?

Again, that's not the question here - if you don't think it's worth the $399, then buy a different product, don't buy a Saleae counterfeit and use their s/w.

I like what Saleae have done, but I'm not a customer - I use the Analog Discovery for this sort of stuff.

This is a circular discussion. I hope we all agree that counterfeit products and misuse of IP is not something we want here - I'll close the thread.
