E and D are the same, a short. I cocked up on the drawing D/E being one and the same , same as B/C which is confusing.
This problem has been bending my mind because there is no obvious IP and OP as in a common cathode/common emitter voltage amplification stage. At first I thought the IP can not be the same as the OP, but I had a bit of an epiphany whilst writting this; see if I have this right. If we stick an AC signal on the +/- rails, current flows from D through the CCS (Q and emitter R) and back through the PSU (in this case two big electrolytics), so therefore IP and OP can be the same.
Keep forgetting about current flow, only see signals as voltages.
